About us

'Leonardo is a truly life-changing experience...' Bert Jones, Wales.

ectarc
is considered Wales' leading organisation in the field of international mobility. Our objective is 'to encourage language learning and international exchanges in order to realise the individual potential and personal development of young people and adult learners'.

We have over 20 years' experience of organising work placement programmes from the UK to the continent of Europe and conversely from other EU countries to the UK. Each year we receive and send an average of 450 participants on a range of EU-funded programmes. ectarc works with partner organisations throughout Europe and together we are able to offer an extensive variety of learning and training opportunities. Our partners are based in Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Hungary and Denmark.

ectarc is a TOIEC (Test of English for International Communication) and Trinity Spoken English Examination Centre.

All our participants are assessed using the Common European Framework for Languages (CEFL). We offer courses in the methodology of teaching English as a foreign language and CLIL (Content Language Integrated Learning). ectarc also organises and hosts technical visits on various topics under the Leonardo VETPRO programme.

ectarc is a host structure for Europe Direct, a European Public Information Centre which acts as an interface at local level between citizens and the European Union, providing a 'question and answer' service and free publications on all aspects of Europe and the EU. Workshops, presentations and discussion groups about Europe and the EU, for schools and other organisations, are available on request.

Where are we?

ectarc is situated in Wales which, with England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, forms part of the United Kingdom. Wales is a bilingual country; many of its people speak Welsh, a Celtic language, as well as English. Wales is renowned for its rugby (the national sport), music and beautiful scenery. The capital, Cardiff, is home to the Millennium Stadium and one of Wales' many universities. The pretty market town of Llangollen, ectarc's home, is situated in north-east Wales on the banks of the spectacular river Dee, close to many natural wonders: mountains, green hills, waterfalls and the Llangollen canal with its horse-drawn boats. Pontcysyllte aqueduct, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a near neighbour. The town is famous for its International Musical Eisteddfod, a festival of music, song and dance which has been forging international friendships every summer since 1947. Llangollen is just one hour from Manchester and Liverpool international airports.
