Course Information

This is a course for teachers in primary or secondary education, and for staff of adult education organisations in the EU.  Participants will:

  • Develop a practical understanding of how to use our skills of social storytelling in a more formal setting
  • Plan and deliver a programme of stories
  • Understand the benefits and pitfalls of working in historical locations
  • Plan possible projects in the home country
  • Tell stories in different sized groups
  • Develop a supportive peer feedback structure

In addition to training sessions with our highly qualified and experienced Storyteller, participants take part in a Welsh cultural programme that includes a trip to Snowdonia and an introduction to the Welsh language and history.  Each participant is accommodated in their own single room with bathroom, in comfortable and welcoming ‘bed and breakfast’ establishments near the training centre.  Participants eat together each evening in a local restaurant.

The course cost is €1350 and this includes accommodation, breakfast, dinner and the cultural programme, but not flights, transfers from the airport and lunches. Teachers and staff of adult education can apply to the EU Lifelong Learning programme (Comenius or Grundtvig) for funding to attend this course.

Methodology

Participants will be in multi-lingual groups where all the interaction will be in English. Many sessions will be workshop-based, involving problem-solving and discussion. Participants will experience various language-learning techniques that can be transferred to their own classroom. There will be an on-going evaluation.

 A varied course programme including:
  • A variety of stories from the course tutor
  • Social dynamics of storytelling
  • Sensory memory: How to inhabit the sensory world of your story and make it more real for yourself and your listeners
  • Structural memory: Becoming clear about the stucture of your story and how subtle changes affect how it is heard
  • Guided practice with the tutor, leading to a performance of your material
