Courses for teachers

Language, methodology and culture

If you are a teacher working in primary, secondary or adult education in an EU country, you will benefit from our courses in language and methodology development. These are held throughout the year at our centre in Llangollen, North Wales. Refresh your skills – and at the same time discover the wonders of Wales!  Our courses are part of the EU’s Comenius/Grundtvig scheme.

Who are these programmes for?

Teachers in primary, secondary or adult education, working in a member or candidate country of the European Union. Teachers from non-EU countries are welcome to apply on a self-funded basis.

What does the programme include?

  • All our courses aim to upgrade your language and teaching skills. Participants focus on language problem areas, discuss current issues and trends in teaching methodology and try out different teaching techniques.
  • Our cultural programme  encourages you to explore Celtic connections, finding out about the Welsh language and the history and culture of Wales. Llangollen is close to Snowdonia National Park.
  • Our lively social programme includes an international food evening, and either a live music session or a trip to a renowned theatre, Clwyd Theatr Cymru, offering a chance to talk to the actors about the production.
  • Llangollen is set in beautiful countryside close to Snowdonia National Park, allowing for walking and visits to attractions. There will be a guided walk in the mountains and a visit to one of the region’s many impressive castles.

All courses have been approved by the UK National Lifelong Learning Agency. They are listed on the EU’s on-line training database, so that you can apply for a contribution from the European Lifelong Learning programme to attend.

Where do you stay?

Participant teachers are accommodated in en suite rooms in  ‘bed and breakfast’ (B&B) accommodation. This is within 5 minutes’ walk from Llangollen town centre, where ectarc is located.

Why choose Wales?

Wales (Cymru) , like England, Northern Ireland and Scotland, is one of the countries which make up the United Kingdom.  Welsh, a Celtic language, is spoken by many of its people alongside English.  Wales is a land of green hills and valleys,  mountains and rushing rivers, and beautiful seashores. Llangollen is a small, friendly town, just 12 km from the border with England. It is famous around the world for its International Musical Eisteddfod, a festival of music, song and dance which takes place every summer. The Welsh people are proud of their warm and hospitable reputation, which extends to all our participants. To discover more about Llangollen please visit the town website www.llangollen.org.uk
